Reunion Resort Tournament Recap
The Pukka Junior Tour, GPIA and all of its staff and volunteers are proud to announce the winners of each division from the Pukka Junior Tour's first ever event, held at the beautiful Reunion Resort in Reunion, FL, May 1st-2nd, 2010. The weather was hazy, hot and humid, with temperatures nearing 94 degrees on the second day and a very slight breeze of 10mph.....but all of the juniors played very well, showed great etiquette and we appreciate everyone's support for our first event!
Zachary Moore of Ocoee, Fl (2010) had a bogey free opening round of six-under par 66 on Saturday, creating a large lead heading into day 2 in the Overall Boys 16-19 division. Not only did he have the most birdies of the day, but his iron game was dead on, having birdie putts inside of 10 feet on several holes. He followed up on day 2 with an even par 72, finishing at six under par 138. Zach will be able to participate in the Golfweek Invitational at the end of 2010 for winning our first Major of the season. It is being held at the exact same location at Reunion towards the end of 2010.
Manik Singh of IMG Academies in Bradenton, FL( 2010) posted an opening round 79, but followed that up with a very solid two over par round of 74, to secure him second place in the Boys 16-19 division.
Thirteen year old Zachary Hoskins from the Grand Cypress Golf Academy in Orlando, FL (2016) shot a first round 74 and final round, 3-under par 69, making his score the low round on Sunday. He finished in first place in his division, with a score of one under par 143. Zach's big drives and stellar recovery shots helped him to win his first Pukka event.
Ten year old David Morgan (2019) from Naples, FL won the Boys 11-12 division at 171. David hit some amazing fairway shots and holed several great putts on both days to win his division.
In the overall girls 15-19 division, Emma Smyser (2012) of Naples, FL finished in first place with a winning score of 80-77=157. Emma hit some amazing recovery shots on the tough Tom Watson designed Independence Course at Reunion. Emma's putter was dead on all week....and this win puts her in the Golfweek Invitational at the end of 2010.
In second place in the overall Girls 15-19 division, Alice Barbieri (2012) of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy and resident of Windermere, FL came back from a tough 84 in the first round to shoot the low round of the tournament in the girls division, firing a 3-over par 75 on day two. Alice showed great poise in trying for her first Pukka junior Tour victory....and we are sure she will be something to reckon with in future Pukka events.
Anastasia Adruzova (2014), playing out of the Mike Bender Golf Academy, won the Girls 12-14 division with a score 84-78=162. Anastasia showed incredible poise for such a young girl and had tremendous consistency all weekend!
Eleven year old Sabriina Hoskins (2017) finished in second place in the Girls 12-14 division with a score of 174.
Eight year old Stephanie HiDock won First Place in the Girls 7-9 division, shooting a 55-59, playing 9 holes each day.
Once again, thanks for the support for our first event. Our second event already has more people signed up than the first one and we hope to continue to offer a great platform for junior golf competition and fun!
